So, the sweep is no longer a possibilty. Taking three out of four is still on the table, which may be enough to keep them in the race. But whether they can pull that off or not, the Florida Marlins were still able to split a day/night doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday.

It almost happened again.
Josh Johnson struck out 12 batters for the Florida Marlins last night. He allowed just two runs over six innings as the Atlanta Braves batters fanned 15 times overall.
Last weekend, the Florida Marlins beat the Atlanta Braves in the first game of their three game series. They did so without one of their aces on the mound, and things were off to a great start.
Yes, they are injured. Sure, they are fighting for their lives in the National League playoff race. But as was evident by their show of unity in their beatdown of the Washington Nationals (both literally and figuratively), the Florida Marlins are not going to roll over and be a doormat for any team. Not even the N.L. East leading Atlanta Braves this weekend.
The Florida Marlins have snapped their three game “Hell Week” losing streak as Anibal Sanchez took another step forward in becoming one of the more consistent pitchers in the National League.
Talk about leaving an awful feeling in the pit of your stomach.
I really don’t have much to say about the Florida Marlins’ loss last night to the Atlanta Braves. They lost 12-3, Ricky Nolasco, Andrew Miller and Burke Badenhop got shelled, and no starter picked up more than one hit. The Marlins are now 1-1 during “Hell Week” as they fell to 6 1/2 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the N.L. East, but they do have Josh Johnson going in the series finale this afternoon. Taking two out of three in Atlanta is still completely possible.
